This describes exactly what the app touches, what reaches our servers, and what we keep afterwards.
Traveler's Chart is built and operated by Frontier Cloud Services LLC, the entity named as the developer on the app's Google Play listing. Questions about anything here go to privacy@frontier.cloud, which is read by the people who build the app.
You do not need an account to use Traveler's Chart. The map, search, directions and turn-by-turn navigation all work without signing in, and we do not ask who you are.
The app needs your location to center the map and to navigate. Those coordinates are sent to our own servers to calculate a route or look up an address, used to answer that one request, and then discarded. They are not written to a database and not written to a log. Two things are deliberately kept, and both are described below: a share link you create yourself, and a ten-second cache of which businesses are in a map area.
There is no third-party analytics or advertising code in this app, and no advertising identifier. What we do keep is a running total, per business, of how many times it has been opened or turned up in a search. Those are plain counters attached to the business, not to you: they record that a listing was viewed, never who viewed it.
We may extend this in future to understand which businesses people look at and in what order, so that listings could eventually be monetized. If we do, it will be aggregate and anonymous — counts and patterns across all visitors, with nothing tying a sequence of views back to a person, a device or a session. None of that is built today, and this policy will be updated before it is.

The app asks for no other permissions. It has no access to your camera, microphone, contacts, photos, files, calendar, call logs or messages, and it contains no code that could use them.

Logs rotate automatically and are not used to build any profile.Location is processed, not collected. Coordinates pass through our servers to answer a request and are not retained afterwards. That is a deliberate design choice, and the caches that used to hold routes and address lookups were removed to make it true. Nothing described above about counting views involves your location.
Two, both strictly functional, neither used for advertising or measurement:
The map itself, the routing engine and the address search all run on our own servers, so browsing and navigating do not involve any third-party map or routing provider. Map data comes from © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License.
All traffic is encrypted in transit with HTTPS. Editor passwords are stored only as salted hashes and are never recoverable in readable form. Administrative functions are restricted by role, and internal notes are never sent to visitors. Public traffic reaches the service only through our network provider, on the web ports; the database and the internal routing and search services are not exposed to the internet at all. Administrative access is separate and uses key-based authentication.
Listings describe businesses, not app users, and are written by a small number of approved editors. They include information such as a name, address, opening hours and public contact details. If you are connected to a listed business and something is wrong — or you would like the listing removed — write to privacy@frontier.cloud and we will correct or remove it.
Accounts exist only for editors and are created by an administrator; there is no public sign-up. If you have one, you can delete it from within the app, which removes your account and its credentials immediately. Listings you created stay on the map with their authorship cleared, so that deleting an account does not erase the map for everyone else.
One record outlives the account: an administrative audit entry noting that the deletion happened, including the username, so that changes to the map stay traceable. Otherwise: share links expire after 30 days, address-lookup caches within an hour, map-area caches within ten seconds, logs rotate on a fixed size, and nothing else about a visitor is stored to begin with. Traveler's Chart is available as a web app at chart.frontier.cloud and as an Android app. This policy covers every copy of it, however you obtained it — Google Play, a direct download, or our own software repository.
The Android builds differ in one way worth stating: the standard build asks Google's location services for your position, while a separate build for de-Googled devices does not use Google Play Services and takes your position from the operating system instead. Either way the coordinates are handled exactly as described above.
Traveler's Chart is a general-purpose map for drivers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app has no sign-up, messaging or social features through which a child could provide any.
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal information we hold, and to object to how it is used. Because the app requires no account and keeps no location history, there is usually very little to act on — but ask, and we will tell you exactly what exists and remove it if you want. We do not charge for this and will not treat you differently for asking.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or keep, we will update the date below and note the change here. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
Traveler's Chart is a United States service. The map data covers the continental US, so there is nothing useful here for anyone elsewhere, and the site is served only to visitors in the US — a request from another country is turned away with a short notice rather than the app. This page stays readable from anywhere.
Because of that we do not set out to process data from people outside the US. Our own servers — the map, routing, address search and the database — are in the US. The network provider that carries traffic to us operates globally, so a connection may touch equipment outside the country on its way in, and on the Google Play build Google's location services work the same way.

Frontier Cloud Services LLC is responsible for the information described here. If you are in a place with a privacy regulator and you are unhappy with how we answer you, you are entitled to complain to it. A postal address is available on request to the email above.
